Instead of ICE Munich to Hamburg here my itinery: (Option local trains only)

Day 1:

  • Depart from Munich HBF and take the local train to Ingolstadt. Spend a few hours exploring this charming Bavarian city, which is home to a 15th-century castle and several historic churches.
  • From Ingolstadt, take a local train to Nuremberg, where you can spend the afternoon exploring the old town, which is famous for its medieval architecture, including the Kaiserburg castle and the Albrecht Dürer House.
  • In the evening, take a local train from Nuremberg to Würzburg, where you can spend the night.

Day 2:

  • Spend the morning exploring Würzburg, a picturesque city known for its baroque architecture and the UNESCO-listed Residence Palace.
  • From Würzburg, take a local train to Kassel, where you can visit the Bergpark Wilhelmshöhe, a stunning park with cascading waterfalls, an impressive statue of Hercules, and a beautiful palace.
  • In the evening, take a local train from Kassel to Göttingen, where you can spend the night.

Day 3:

  • Spend the morning exploring Göttingen, a university town with a charming old town and several historic buildings, including the Gänseliesel fountain.
  • From Göttingen, take a local train to Hamburg, where you will arrive in the late afternoon.

Day 1:

  • Depart from Hamburg HBF and take a local train to Schwerin. This charming city is known for its stunning castle, which overlooks a beautiful lake. Spend a few hours exploring the castle and the old town.
  • From Schwerin, take a local train to Berlin’s Spandau station, where you can spend the night.

Day 2:

  • Spend the morning exploring Spandau, which has a rich history dating back to the Middle Ages. Visit the 16th-century Citadel, which has been well-preserved and is now home to several museums.
  • From Spandau, take a local train to Berlin’s central station (Berlin HBF). This will give you plenty of time to explore the city’s many landmarks, such as the Brandenburg Gate, Checkpoint Charlie, the Berlin Wall Memorial, and the Reichstag building.
  • Spend the night in Berlin.

  • From Bremen, take a local train to Münster, a university town with a charming old town and several historic churches, including the St. Paulus Cathedral and the Lambertikirche.
  • Spend the night in Münster.

Day 2:

  • Spend the morning exploring Münster, including a visit to the famous Münster Zoo, or a bike ride along the scenic promenade.
  • In the afternoon, take a local train from Münster to Cologne, a historic city with a stunning cathedral, museums, and several shopping districts.
  • Spend the night in Cologne.

Day 3:

  • Spend the morning exploring Cologne, including a visit to the iconic Kölner Dom Cathedral and the Museum Ludwig.
  • In the afternoon, take a local train from Cologne to Aachen, where you can explore the city’s historic center, including the Aachen Cathedral, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the Carolus Thermen Spa.
  • Spend the night in Aachen.

Day 4:

  • Spend the morning exploring more of Aachen’s attractions, such as the Couven Museum, the Elisenbrunnen Fountain, and the historic City Hall.
  • In the afternoon, depart from Aachen and take a local train back to Hamburg, where you will arrive late at night.
